*CAUTION* These are alpha installation discs of a developing operating system. Use at your own risk and take the proper precautions. Four CD images are supplied. The others are probably of no interest. GNU-K8-mini.iso is also supplied which consists of a boot-floppy and baseGNU. A K8 DVD is available. About these images. These images were produced using highly modified Debian's debian-cd and boot-floppy packages. The baseGNU.tgz (the tarball) has been specifically built for this series. A serious attempt has been made to ensure that the packages wanted by most people are on the first CD. The *_hurd-i386.deb packages are on the first three CDs. All the required, important and standard packages or on the first CD. This series has not included packages other than the official Debian archive and ftp.gnuab.org. Supported Hardware. In theory these CDs should install GNU/Hurd on any i386 machine on which Debian 3.0 can be installed using the CD-ROM or the alternative boot-disks. However, unpacking baseGNU onto the drive is no guarantee that GNU/Hurd will run as there may be other hardware issues. Nomenclature. There are no GNU releases as such and so these discs are a snap-shot of the Debian GNU/Hurd archive with the addition of packages from other sources. The release information and build date will be found in /.disk/info. The "K8" is the version. The letter "K" refers to the version of the GNU/Linux installer on the discs. The number "8" refers to the debian GNU/Hurd packages found on the CDs, DVD and in baseGNU.tgz. In the case of K8 the packages are as at Tue Dec 28 20:00:02 UTC 2004 at ftp-master.debian.org. As GNU is in a continuous state of flux this can be expected to change frequently. Updates. It is my intention to update these discs every four to eight weeks.
